40-Day Feast

We’ve all heard of a forty-day fast, but what about a forty-day feast? No, not forty days of pure gluttony but forty days of “feasting” on God’s word. Mary Beth, my wife, originally coined the term and is using it to write about forty days of feasting on what God is doing in her life. My take on it is a little different: Forty days during which every day you read a book of Bible from beginning to end at one sitting.

Applause

Tonight I went to a Third Day Christian concert. Toward the end, the band left the stage, as they typically do, before returning for that final, incredible song. After they left, people cheered; they whistled; they applauded. I watched as 7,000 or so people clapped as one, waiting for the band’s reappearance. Suddenly I imagined what it will be like in heaven someday when millions of believers stand before the throne of God, cheering and applauding and shouting with excitement and anticipation of worshipping their Lord and Savior.

More Weight!

Have you ever read “The Crucible”? You know the fiction story of the young girls in the 1700s who start accusing all these people of being witches and being under the rule of the devil. The actions of these girls sent the people on a witch hunt. Blinded by fear and false sense of “holy” purpose, they carried out acts of injustice in the name of God. Well if you haven’t it’s really not half bad. It’s a sad story in so many ways, but it makes some good points.

Nap Time…

I can remember a time when, a little while after lunch, the whole house would become quiet.  I had at least an hour to do what ever I wanted or needed to do. My boys would lay down for a nap and there was silence.

Fearfully Fearless

Fear. It’s a powerful feeling. One that can lead to completely irrational decisions. A feeling that robs you of reality. And yet we seem to take some sort of pleasure in it. We go to the movies just to experience it. We pay money to be surprised, panicked, and even terrified. We have an addiction to its power. Although at times we make ourselves vulnerable to fear that will forever haunt us.
